Religion and ethics

NSW public schools offer special religious education and special education in ethics, delivered by approved providers wherever available.

At Ropes Crossing Public School, a half hour Special Religious Education (SRE) class is offered to students.

Stage 3 attend their lessons from 11:15am-11:45am, Stage 2 from 11:45am-12:15pm, Stage 1 12:15pm-12:45pm and Kindergarten from 12:45pm-1:15pm (Semester Two only).

We provide the following SRE classes: Catholic, Sikh, Islamic and Protestant. Each teacher of Special Religious Education is authorised by the approved provider. 

The approved provider for Catholic SRE is the Catholic Diocese of Sydney. The SRE curriculum is available at: https://ccd.sydneycatholic.org/publications/curriculum-resources/

The approved provider for Islamic SRE is the Islamic Council NSW. The curriculum is available at:  http://www.isre.org.au/

The approved provider for Protestant SRE is Anglican Diocese of SydneyThe curriculum is available at: whysre.com.au.

 

Students who do not attend SRE participate in alternative meaningful activities.

During enrolment, you can choose a special religious education option for your child from the school’s available approved providers. You can withdraw your child from special religious education by selecting alternative meaningful activities, or special education in ethics if it’s available.

You can update your preference by writing to the school or through the online form available at participating schools.
